So, What’s This New Bucket All About?
Imagine a bucket is a representation of your soul. The water in the bucket is your life’s experiences, your beliefs, faith, love, hopes and everything in between. The sides of the bucket would be your metaphorical body, the vessel that carries all that is you throughout this world. We carry the bucket with us, and we cherish all that it holds.
The bucket like ourselves can be hurt or damaged. When challenging things happen a small hole can be created that allows some of the “water” (energy) to escape. We can top up the bucket, but the water continues to run out. When enough holes are created more water escapes than can be refilled. Our buckets begin to run empty, our resilience to life’s challenges decreases, we don’t feel like we have enough water left to move forward. We can feel stuck, uncertain, drained and vulnerable only being able to see problems and not solutions.
This is what happened to me. I felt lost, deflated, and unsure of who I was. I had too many holes in my bucket to retain any water. After hitting an all time low and ending up in surgery I realized something. Why am I trying to fill a leaky bucket? Just get a new bucket!
My new bucket was colourful, strong and resilient. Totally different from the old grey bucket I had carried for so long. The water I filled it with was still all me but how I carried it was different.
The new bucket does not represent a new person, but a new perspective. A conscious realization that what we do in this world is not as important as how we show up in it. The new bucket represents a higher awareness of who you are as your authentic self. Someone who realizes our choices on how we view the world and ourselves come from within. We have freedom to choose. We can choose to lead powerfully in our thoughts, our feelings and our actions.
The new bucket concept acknowledges and builds upon the previous research of ‘bucket filling’ developed by noted individuals, including but not limited to, Dr. Donald O. Clifton, John E. Valusek, Merrill Lundgren and Carol McCloud.
